During the Library’s Reading Week, the English Department held a book exhibition that included authentic picture books that were created by Secondary 1 students. An engaging reading activity called “Once Upon a Listen” also took place for Secondary 1 and Primary 3 students. This reading activity allowed S1 students to retell picture books that they had written and designed as part of their English literature curriculum.
During lunchtime, students gathered in small reading circles, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with excitement and curiosity. Each S1 storyteller took center stage, presenting their unique picture books to eager listeners. The activity fostered a sense of community, as the older students mentored the younger ones, encouraging them to appreciate the art of storytelling. This interactive experience not only enhanced the S1 students’ understanding of narrative structure but also developed their confidence in public speaking. “Once Upon a Listen” was a memorable event that promoted literacy and collaboration in a fun and dynamic way. Through this activity, both groups of students discovered the joy of sharing stories and the power of imagination.
