We are thrilled to share the incredible adventures and discoveries from the joint-school UK summer study tour. A total of fifty students from four different True Light schools embarked on a 2-week journey of exploration and learning to England in August 2024.

Fourteen girls from S1 to S3 of our schools joined the tour to immerse themselves in English learning with other international students in the campus of the University of East London. To have a taste of authentic British culture and history, our students visited different tourist sites after class, from historical heritages like Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace to iconic landmarks like Big Ben and London Bridge. On top of that, we had the opportunity to visit the world-renowned Shakespeare Globe Theatre to understand how a play is put up. We even had a wonderful evening watching the award-winning musical, Wicked, in Victoria Theatre.

The trip was indeed a whirlwind of experiences that left a lasting impact on all of us.

Here are the impressions shared by some of the students after joining the tour.

This adventure was a fantastic opportunity to dive headfirst into a different culture. England’s rich history and lively traditions provided the perfect backdrop for our studies.

Picture this: visiting iconic landmarks like the Tower of London, King’s College, and the British Museum! It was like stepping into a history book, and I loved every minute of it. Plus, I had the chance to experience what school life was like overseas. Attending English lessons was a total highlight for me. I got to see how their curriculum differed from what I was used to back home. And let’s not forget about the canteen! Having meals with a bunch of other schoolmates was a brand-new experience for me. It was like being in a scene from a movie, complete with laughter and chatter all around. This glimpse into what it’s like to be a student in England was nothing short of eye-opening, and it definitely broadened my horizons.

After this transformative trip, I’ve seen some serious personal growth. Stepping out of my comfort zone and navigating a new environment felt like leveling up in a video game. I developed greater independence and confidence. I learned to adapt to unfamiliar situations and approach doubts from different backgrounds calmly—definitely a valuable lesson. I wholeheartedly recommend this summer study tour to my schoolmates.

This exchange not only enhanced my understanding of The UK, but also helped me build lasting friendships. Every moment was filled with discovery.

When it comes to the most unforgettable experience, it would be the friends I made from all over the world. I met friends from Turkey, Argentina, Azerbaijan and even Palestine and Russia. I was incredibly lucky to meet friends who share similar interests with me. During my days in the UK, we often chatted together and danced in the evenings. We also shared our local food and cultures. On the last day, we even exchanged our necklaces. I’m very grateful to have met them during this trip, and we have kept in touch to this day.

During the fourteen-day journey, I became more independent than before. I did my own laundry, washed dishes, tidied my room, packed my luggage, and so on. Besides that, I became more open and accepted different things around me. As an introverted person, I initially felt a bit uncomfortable encountering enthusiastic foreigners, but then, I began to integrate with them and accept people with different personalities. I gained a lot from this trip, and I can’t wait to go again to experience and discover more new things!
