To facilitate new students’ transition to English instruction and build confidence communicating in English, our school organized the Get-set-go S1 Orientation Programme. Core concepts in key subjects were covered, along with classroom language skills, easing the shift to secondary education.
Additionally, two STEAM workshop tastings during the Get-Set-Go bridging program enabled students to develop creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and basic Python skills, while exploring interests in the school’s STEAM Team.
ECA tasting programmes on Friday afternoon (23 August 2024) showcased highlights and allowed students to explore diverse offerings to pursue interests in the coming year.
Furthermore, on 24 August, class teachers collaborated with school social workers to organize the “Campus Hunting with My New Buddies” programme, including team-building exercises to build friendships and experience team spirit.
The S1 Parents Meeting on 31 August enabled parents to understand the school’s principles and key measures. Students were introduced to major academic and student support policies by our vice principals, Miss Au and Miss Kwong, respectively. Our principal, Miss Hui, introduced the mission and spirit. Pastor and ministers held a Blessing Ceremony, praying for each S1 student to experience God’s love, discover meaning in life, and radiate vitality. Students also received personalized Bibles, welcoming them into the True Light family and guiding their journeys.
The orientation program was met with enthusiasm from both students and parents. Students appreciated the opportunity to familiarize themselves with secondary school academics and activities in a welcoming environment. Many parents expressed that the events helped them better understand the school’s vision and eased concerns about the transition process. The blessing ceremony was especially impactful, with parents commenting that it was a meaningful way to embark on the secondary school journey. Overall, the positive feedback underscores the success of the orientation program in acclimating new students and families to become part of the treasured True Light community.
